What’s up y’all and welcome to Children’s Legal Services’ Foster STRONG blog for youth who are experiencing foster care.
My name is Tasha Matthews and I am the Peer Advocate at Children’s Legal Services of San Diego. I wanted to introduce this blog and this entire page to all transitional aged foster youth! I will share a little bit more about myself and what I do in the next blog.
The biggest thing I wanted to make you aware of is that this blog (and page) is for you! The idea was formed to have a site that would not only list scholarship resources, services, supports, and housing programs, but to also create written pieces of dialogue, connection, and empowerment that would be published weekly that would benefit you! Topics will range anywhere from practical tips on what to do in stressful situations, how we overcome conflicts, advice on budgeting, resources that folks should take advantage of (especially if you are in San Diego), just simply encouraging you all as you are, and the list goes on.
This is a new and exciting adventure for me to explore the things that I wish I had known when I was at the beginning of my transition. So if there are any topics that you feel would be useful to you, please e-mail me here. Your input matters deeply and we want to make sure that you feel that this blog is best representing your needs! Even if you are barely just starting out and there is fear surrounding the unknown future, we are here to help. And besides, your resiliency, or mastery to overcome your struggles, will push you towards success.
